Growing up in Guatemala, I experienced the challenges of Intermittent Water Supply (IWS) firsthand—our taps ran just four hours a day, often leaving us vulnerable to waterborne illnesses. This formative experience sparked my passion for environmental research and the power of education to drive meaningful change. I focus on exploring the critical connections between water quality, public health, and community development.

My career has taken me from fieldwork to the lab, enabling me to develop a unique skill set in research design, data analysis, and project management. I’ve established labs and forged collaborations around the world—in the United States, Panama, Kenya, Mexico, and the UK— to advance our understanding of microbial and chemical water quality at the intersection of environment, infrastructure, and health. By examining how drinking water systems operate from source to tap and identifying where the highest risks occur, I seek to develop solutions that make water delivery safer for underserved communities. Ultimately, my goal is to improve the quality of life for the 2.2 billion people who still lack safely managed drinking water, using research and collaboration to achieve sustainable and equitable access to this essential resource.
